Ready to transform how we teach Social Studies?

Join me for a 2-day journey as we dive into the Investigating History curriculum. Together, we’ll unpack the most essential content understandings, skills, and pedagogical moves as well as opportunities for personalization, such as:
  • Making connections to present-day issues
  • Protocols for student-led inquiry
  • Facilitate strategies for discussions about identity and in/justice
  • Strategies to amplify student voice
  • Structures for student-led civic action

Re-energize your teaching by simplifying the planning process, setting the stage for students to make sense of the present by looking at the past, and inspiring students to take action to make change in their communities!

We'll focus on the curriculum's core pedagogical principles:

What will participants do?

  • Experience a demo lesson

  • Reflect on their strengths and areas for growth in relation to these innovative pedagogical approaches

  • Unpack the lessons and assessments in the focus unit with specific attention to:
    • Possible current event connections
    • Fine-tuning inquiry-, text-, or discussion-based protocols
    • Application ideas (i.e., opportunities for students to apply what they learned to take action on a community issue)

Participants will leave with the materials they need to teach the first lesson(s) of the unit!

Who is this for?

The full, 2-day experience is best for teams who are new to the curriculum. Teams who have already piloted the curriculum would be a great fit for the second day.

Additional Service Options:
  • For schools or districts who only have one or two teachers who are new to the curriculum, my self-paced course is a cost-effective option.
  • For leaders who want help learning to coach teachers using this curriculum, 1:1 virtual coaching is an option. Depending on your desired focus and school size, team leads, instructional coaches, or principals may enroll in coaching.
