What is it?
Teachers can ask a confidential question at any time, by text or audio, using Slack (a messaging app that allows us to communicate).
At least one coach will send you a personalized response (and any relevant resources) within 24 hours.
Problem: Most professional development is one-size fits all. We offer cost-effective, personalized support for staff who are new to teaching or taking on new experiences. Problem: Questions arise at all points of the day, not just within school hours. Our coaches are on-call to answer your questions, and support your practice. Through our years of experience in schools we know that transformational moments arrive in well-timed conversation. |
Who is this for?
Could these staff members use support?
- New teachers uncertain about classroom management.
- Grade or Department Team Leaders gathering text that span a range of perspectives and author identities.
- Instructional coaches learning how to help teachers develop rich, student-led conversation.
- Principals leading sustained change throughout their communities.
Who leads this work?
Hi, I’m Lindsay!
Before partnering with Kara to create Customized Coaching When You Need It, I spent 13 years learning and leading at schools. I’ve been a classroom teacher of multilingual learners and students with IEPs in New York City; department chair; instructional coach; curriculum designer; and a college instructor for new teachers. My doctoral dissertation and subsequent academic and practitioner publications have focused on racial, gender, linguistic, and ability justice; student voice; and adaptive leadership. I believe all students should have opportunities to co-create feminist, antiracist curricula that challenges, affirms, and inspires them. When I’m not coaching, I’m often chasing my toddler, reading a book, or eating Chips Ahoy cookies dunked in orange juice. |
Hi, I’m Kara!
Before partnering with Lindsay to create Customized Coaching When You Need It, I spent 20+ years learning and leading at schools. I’ve been a classroom teacher; reading interventionist; Instructional Coach; curriculum designer; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Facilitator, and adjunct instructor at Bank Street College of Education. My book, Teaching Talk: A Practical Guide to Fostering Student Thinking and Conversation (Heinemann, 2017) shares ways to foster productive and independent student discussions in elementary and middle school classrooms. I believe in giving all learners - teachers and students - a space to share their ideas and raise their voice. When I’m not coaching, I’m often texting with my young adult children, or cooking with one leg up like a flamingo. |
