I've spent 13+ years learning and leading at schools. I’ve been a classroom teacher of multilingual learners and students with IEPs in New York City; department chair; instructional coach; curriculum designer; and a college instructor for new teachers. My PhD and ongoing research are focused on racial, gender, linguistic, and ability justice; student voice; and adaptive leadership. (See more here.) I believe all students should have opportunities to co-create feminist, antiracist curricula that challenges, affirms, and inspires them. When I’m not coaching, I’m often making magna-tile towers with my kid, reading a book, or eating Chips Ahoy cookies dunked in orange juice.

I've spent 20+ years learning and leading at schools. I’ve been a classroom teacher; reading interventionist; Instructional Coach; curriculum designer; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Facilitator, and adjunct instructor at Bank Street College of Education. My book, Teaching Talk: A Practical Guide to Fostering Student Thinking and Conversation (Heinemann, 2017) shares ways to foster productive and independent student discussions in elementary and middle school classrooms. I believe in giving all learners - teachers and students - a space to share their ideas and raise their voice. When I’m not coaching, I’m often texting with my young adult children, or cooking with one leg up like a flamingo.
