Talking to kids about topics that bring up big emotions? Also hard.
We've all wondered how to respond when:
- Your middle-schooler wants to know more about hard history they've learned from a book or lesson at school
- Your child’s teacher informs you that students said harmful things to each other in class
- Your youngest is upset over news coverage of a story featuring violence or oppression
That's why we're offering EduBoost Coaching for families.

Here's how it works:
1. Your kid brings up a topic and you’re not sure how to respond: Why does that man have a sign asking for money? Or something happens in the world—a school shooting is all over the news—or in your kid’s life—you overheard classmates making fun of their new outfit at drop off, and you want to talk to your kid about it but you’re unsure how to bring it up. 2. You send us a message on Slack telling us what’s going on via text or audio. Slack can be used on your phone or computer, so you can totally message us from the grocery store checkout line or at 2:00 A.M. when the question’s literally keeping you awake at night. 3. You get a personalized response (and any relevant resources) within 24 hours from me and/or my awesome colleague, Kara Pranikoff. |
You don't have to tackle these conversations alone.

I'm a parent of a preschooler, former Social Studies and Literacy teacher, student voice scholar, podcast host and educational justice coach.
When I’m not coaching, I’m often listening to Dr. Becky's podcast, Good Inside, getting a dose of current events from Pod Save the People, or reading a fantasy, mystery, or family drama novel. |
I'm a parent of young adult children, former classroom teacher, Instructional Coach, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Facilitator, and author of the book, Teaching Talk: A Practical Guide to Fostering Student Thinking and Conversation.
When I’m not coaching, I’m often texting with my kids or cooking with one leg up like a flamingo. |
